Gerry Glasco already landed the top available pitcher in the portal. One day later, he has one of the best bats coming to Lubbock.
LUBBOCK, Texas - An emotional Gerry Glasco said he didn't know how he'll feel when he can't write Mihyia Davis in his lineup card anymore.
Starting next year, the Texas Tech head coach will be without his uber-reliable centerfielder, who spent her first two seasons with him at Louisiana before coming to Lubbock and helping take the Red Raiders to two Women's College World Series championship rounds.
So, like Glasco has done in his two seasons with Texas Tech, he went to the transfer portal to reload his team as it aims to return to Oklahoma City.
Texas Tech landed a commitment from former Purdue outfielder Moriah Polar.
Davis' eligibility ended with her leading the nation in career hits. Polar comes to Texas Tech as the top percentage hitter in the country last year, sporting a ridiculous .555 batting average that led all Division I players.
Like Davis, Polar also brings game-changing speed that should slide her into the top of Glasco's lineup. Polar finished the season 10th in the nation in stolen bases for the Boilermakers.
Polar was the No. 5-ranked player in the transfer portal upon her commitment to the Red Raiders. She'll come to Lubbock as a senior in 2027 after earning All-American honors this past year.
In 2026, Polar set a new Purdue single-season record with 101 hits. She'll join a Texas Tech roster that returns star second baseman Mia Williams, who set Red Raider records in RBIs and home runs this year.
The Texas Tech offense was the story of the Big 12 as it led the conference in practically every category. That's a trend that could stay consistent in 2027 with the addition of a dynamic top-of-the-order player like Polar.
In the circle, the Red Raiders will be fueled by a pair of lefty arms with premium experience.

On3 notes how Polar suffered a near-career-threatening injury at the end of her 2025 season. She suffered neck and jaw fractures after colliding with a teammate in the field. After reportedly needing to "relearn basic softball movements, including how to pick up and throw a ball while regaining the ability to comfortably turn her head from side to side," Polar went on to turn in one of the best comeback stories we've ever seen in 2026.
"It just taught me not to take any little thing for granted," Polar said following her return. "You never know when it’s going to be your last game. I feel like I try to play every game this season as if it could be my last, and that’s what’s been driving me this season."
And now that she's found a new home with the Red Raiders, we bet Glasco, too, won't take a player with Polar's attributes for granted at Texas Tech.
The transfer portal window closes on June 22.
