Texas Tech star Temitope Adeshina won the NCAA outdoor high jump title, completing an undefeated season and indoor-outdoor sweep.
The Texas Tech junior Temitope Adeshina captured the NCAA outdoor high jump championship Saturday at Hayward Field, clearing her way to a third career national title and her first outdoor crown.
More importantly, Adeshina completed a perfect season, sweeping the NCAA indoor and outdoor championships without taking a loss.
Adeshina was nearly flawless in Eugene.
She cleared her first six bars before finally missing at 1.99 meters, or 6 feet, 6 1/4 inches. By then, the damage was already done.
The title was hers, and Texas Tech had its first outdoor women’s high jump national champion since Zarriea Willis won in 2019.
Now Adeshina’s name sits in rare company.
She joins Texas Tech legend Sally Kipyego as the only Red Raider women to win at least three NCAA titles.
Across the men’s and women’s programs, Tech has now won nine NCAA high jump titles, with Adeshina owning three of them.
The Red Raiders also made noise elsewhere on the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The women’s 4x100 relay team of Alyssa Colbert, Olayinka, Anita Afrifa and Mekenze Kelley ran 43.09 to finish eighth, a time good enough for No. 7 in school history.
Texas Tech also flexed in the 100m hurdles, where Tonie-Ann Forbes placed fourth in 12.80 and Symora Adkins finished fifth in 12.82.
Tech was the only school with two hurdlers in the final. Vanessa Balde added an eighth-place finish in the 400m hurdles at 56.21.
The Red Raiders finished 14th as a team with 21 points, but the headline belonged to Adeshina.
Undefeated. Indoor champ. Outdoor champ. Texas Tech has a superstar.
