Former Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton is looking to continue his career at the next level and believes his resiliency is attracting NFL suitors.
The NFL Draft is quickly approaching, with several the nation's best college prospects hoping to hear their name called in Pittsburgh.
Texas Tech is no exception to these expectations, as the Red Raiders are primed to send former players into to professional league.
While big names like edge rushers David Bailey and Romello Height alongside sensational linebacker Jacob Rodriguez dominate the draft discourse, there are other more unsung names coming out of Lubbock.
One of these is former Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton, who spent all of his college seasons with the Red Raiders. He started under center in his final two years and despite battling through injuries put up impressive numbers.
His crowning achievement came after leading the Red Raiders to their first Big 12 Championship and debut appearance in the College Football Playoff. That final game against Oregon didn't go as planned, but Morton believes that he can offer much more.
Not only does he believe that, but it seems that prospective teams around the NFL agree.
Morton sat down with NFL Draft on SI for an interview detailing his experience leading up to draft day.
During this interview, Morton once again emphasized the challenges he overcame while he was at Texas Tech. He credited this resiliency as a core factor in the attention he has received from potential professional matches.
Since formally beginning draft preparations, Morton has taken part in the NFL Combine and Texas Tech's Pro Day. In addition, he stated that he has been a part of several interviews, meetings and Top 30 visits with multiple teams.
According to Morton, the long list of these teams include the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots.
While it is unlikely that he gets the opportunity to lead an NFL team straight out of the draft, Morton said that he is simply excited for the chance to continue his football journey.
Those around Texas Tech have witnessed Morton's skills and his ability to overcome even the toughest situations and can attest to the type of player he has become.
They'll look to see their former leader showcase all that he has learned from Lubbock at the next level.
For Morton, the wait to determine his future is almost over, as the NFL Draft is just over a week away from its showcase on April 23-25.
