No. 13 Texas Tech Boosted By Promising Bounce-Back Stat vs. No. 22 Arizona

Texas Tech is trying to pick itself up off the mat after being knocked out by Cincinnati last week. While Arizona poses a serious challenge, recent history proves that the Red Raiders are not easily beaten by back-to-back foes.

LUBBOCK -- No. 13 Texas Tech is reeling after being humbled in a hostile road upset at the hands of Cincinnati 37-24 one week ago.

Following its lone loss of the year, Texas Tech is attempting to get back on track in its hometown.

However, the Red Raiders do not have an easy path in front of them, as No. 22 Arizona pays a visit to Lubbock on Saturday with its mind also on upsetting the defending Big 12 champions.

The Wildcats are red-hot, potentially the hottest team in the entire nation, off the heels of five-straight wins all by double digits since a narrow road loss to No. 8 BYU.

Led by Noah Fifita, Arizona boasts one of most frustrating scoring offenses for opposing defenses to try and slow down, with only the Cougars finding the solution so far.

Despite a blunder in their last outing, the Red Raiders have the talent on defense to stifle the high-flying offense from the Wildcats. The question becomes can the best version of Texas Tech show up on Saturday?

On the other side of the ball, Texas Tech also has question marks swirling around the offense after its most lackluster showing of the season.

The Red Raiders went ice-cold in the red zone on most of their trips at Nippert Stadium and finally broke into the end zone with under a minute to go in the already decided game.

Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire has already addressed the reemergent woes for his team and reports revealed that backup quarterback Thomas Castellanos will get more reps against the Wildcats in an effort to find some sort of momentum.

In addition, running back Cameron Dickey is set to return from a three-week hiatus resulting from a high-ankle sprain suffered at Boulder during the matchup with Colorado.

Alongside those positive pieces of news, there is a notable tidbit about the Red Raiders under McGuire that could spoil the outcome before a single snap on Saturday.

In the past four seasons, Texas Tech has dropped back-to-back games only four times and has not done so since 2024.

That last occurrence came when Baylor and TCU got the best of the Red Raiders in consecutive weekends. Interestingly, half of these four instances have come against the Bears and Horned Frogs.

Perhaps more bizarre than that, the team that Texas Tech beat before dropping those two games in 2024 just so happened to be Arizona in the first-ever Big 12 meeting between the two.

Granted, in the time since those defeats to Baylor and TCU, Texas Tech has only lost two games total, which is not the largest sample size. But it also highlights how used to winning the program has been in recent years.

Last season exemplified this ability to bounce back in the face of a roadblock better than any other time in the tenure of McGuire and the Red Raiders have the chance to repeat history again in a highly touted clash with the Wildcats.
