Patrick Mahomes is helping Texas Tech unveil new “Let’s Ride” uniforms, strengthening one of college football’s most valuable player-school partnerships.

Patrick Mahomes may be the face of the Kansas City Chiefs, but he’s still finding ways to make noise in Lubbock.

Texas Tech will debut new “Let’s Ride” uniforms on Sept. 18 against Houston, with the look created in collaboration with Adidas and Mahomes.

It’s another example of how aggressively the Red Raiders are leaning into their relationship with one of football's biggest stars.

And why wouldn’t they?

Mahomes isn’t just a famous alum. He’s one of the most recognizable athletes in the country, and his connection to Texas Tech football gives the program a branding weapon very few schools can match.

The “Let’s Ride” theme fits the Red Raider identity, but Mahomes’ involvement is what pushes the uniforms beyond a standard alternate look.

His history in Lubbock still matters.

From 2014 through 2016, Mahomes developed into one of the most explosive quarterbacks in college football.

In his final season, he threw for 5,052 yards and 41 touchdowns before entering the NFL Draft.

Kansas City selected him 10th overall in 2017.

The rest is history.

What’s notable is that Mahomes’ rise to NFL superstardom hasn’t weakened his relationship with Texas Tech. It’s done the opposite.

The school and Adidas launched the “Mahomes Strategy” in 2024, making Texas Tech the first college program to feature Mahomes’ signature Gladiator logo on official uniforms.

Since then, the partnership has continued to grow across the athletic department and the school’s broader brand.

That’s a big deal in modern college football.

Recruiting isn’t just about facilities, coaching staffs and conference affiliation anymore. Image matters. Visibility matters. Association matters.

And Texas Tech can walk into a living room and point directly to Patrick Mahomes.

That’s powerful.

The timing of the uniform debut is smart, too. Houston gives Texas Tech a conference opponent and a national stage for a look that will almost certainly generate attention across social media.

For Mahomes, it’s another way to stay tied to the program that helped launch his career.

For Texas Tech, it’s another reminder that the Red Raiders aren’t thinking small. They’re building a national identity. And Mahomes is helping them do it.
