The rough patch for Texas Tech baseball continues.

Texas Tech Baseball lost its fourth game in a row and clinched its fourth consecutive Big 12 series loss after losing to the Utah Utes on Saturday in Salt Lake City.

The series finale begins Sunday at noon, but there isn't much more to explain the rough patch the Red Raiders are suffering at this point in the season.

Tech sits 20-18 overall and 6-11 in Big 12 play, and the schedule won't let up any better with upcoming series against teams in the top half of the league, such as Baylor and BYU.

One notable performance, however, has been senior second baseman Tracer Lopez, who has climbed up program leaderboards this weekend.

In Game 1 against the Utes on Friday, Lopez became the seventh Red Raider ever to play in 200 career games. He built on to his resume with three hits in the series opener, then on Saturday added two more to rise into the top 10 in program history in hits (tenth, 216).

Lopez is now a few hits away from the No. 9 spot all-time, which belongs to Joey Kenworthy with 218 hits.

The Red Raiders fell in Game 1, 10-3, then were rolled in Game 2, 12-2 in seven innings, to fall in the series, but Lopez's accomplishments are an admirable footnote on a four-year career, which has become more and more rare in the current state of college athletics.

The Rosebud, Texas native made 50 starts in 55 appearances as a true freshman in 2023. He remained a mainstay in the middle of the defensive infield as a sophomore and junior, with last year being his most productive at the plate (.299 batting average in 2025) yet.

So far this season, Lopez is hitting even better. He's sitting at a .351 batting average with a career-high 15 doubles and a .483 slugging percentage.

Up next for the Red Raiders after the Utah series is standalone games against Tarleton State and Abilene Christian on Tuesday and Wednesday before returning home to Dan Law Field to play the Oklahoma State Cowboys over the weekend.
