Texas Tech’s defense earned a 90 overall rating in EA Sports College Football 27, led by Ben Roberts, Bryce Pollack and A.J. Holmes.

Texas Tech football isn’t just getting preseason hype on the field. The Red Raiders are getting serious respect in EA Sports College Football 27, too.

As EA Sports continues rolling out team ratings and player rankings ahead of the game’s release, Texas Tech landed one of the loudest defensive flexes in the country.

The Red Raiders check in with the No. 4 defense in the game, carrying a 90 overall rating. That’s not a courtesy bump. That’s a statement.

And it makes sense when you look at the names stacked across the unit.

Linebacker Ben Roberts leads the charge as one of the top defenders in the game. He’s rated a 91 overall and ranked as the No. 2 linebacker in EA Sports College Football 27.

That puts him in elite company and gives Texas Tech a centerpiece gamers are going to lean on immediately.

He’s not alone.

Cornerback Bryce Pollack is rated even higher at 93 overall, checking in as the No. 2 cornerback in the game. Defensive tackle A.J. Holmes brings more heat up front with a 92 overall rating, good for the No. 4 defensive tackle spot.

Fellow linebacker Austin Romaine adds another major piece, also rated 91 overall and ranked as the No. 4 linebacker.

That’s four Texas Tech defenders ranked among the top five at their respective positions. For a program trying to turn defensive expectations into Big 12 power, that’s massive.

The offense didn’t crack the top 10, but it isn’t empty. Tight end Terrance Carter Jr. gives the Red Raiders a legitimate weapon as the No. 2 tight end in the game.

If the real-life Texas Tech defense plays anywhere close to its video game rating, the Red Raiders won’t need the offense to win shootouts every week. They’ll be built to make opponents miserable.

EA Sports clearly believes the Red Raiders are bringing violence in 2026.
