Texas Tech football added major juice to its 2027 recruiting class with linebacker Jhadyn Nelson, a rising Texas prospect with big offers and disruptive production.

Texas Tech football just added another serious piece to its rising 2027 recruiting class, and this one fits exactly what the Red Raiders are trying to become.

Jhadyn Nelson, a fast-rising linebacker from Houston Langham Creek, has pledged to Texas Tech, giving the program a long, active defender with the kind of profile that usually sparks recruiting battles across the country.

And make no mistake, this was a battle.

Nelson, listed at 6-3 and 217 pounds, drew attention from all over the map, including Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Miami, Auburn, Missouri, Nebraska, UCLA, TCU, Baylor, Houston, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and Arizona.

When a defender is pulling that kind of Power Four traffic before his junior year is even over, it tells you plenty about how his game is viewed.

Last season, Nelson posted 59 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, three sacks, four forced fumbles, and an interception on a Langham Creek team that went 6-4.

He wasn’t just cleaning up tackles five yards downfield; he was creating damage to the opposition. And that’s the type of linebacker Texas Tech has built its recent success around.

Even his sophomore tape showed early signs. In just eight games, Nelson recorded 42 tackles, 2 sacks, one interception, and a fumble recovery. So this isn’t some late-blooming flier. He’s been stacking production for a while.

Recruiting services are high on him as well, with Nelson ranked No. 29 in Texas and No. 190 nationally in the 247Sports Composite.

That gives Tech another nationally relevant name in a class that’s already starting to look nasty.

The Red Raiders have leaned on linebacker play in a big way, and with Ben Roberts, John Curry, and transfer Austin Romaine carrying that room into 2026, the staff is clearly thinking ahead.

Nelson joins a 2027 group that already includes Kavian Bryant, Benny Easter Jr., Jalen Brewster, K’Adrian Redmond, and Brody Pfannenstiel.
