Texas Tech freshman shortstop Linkin Garcia is chasing national honors after a standout season at the plate and in the field for the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech baseball continues to get national attention, and this time it’s freshman shortstop Linkin Garcia earning the spotlight.

Garcia has been named a semifinalist for the 2026 Brooks Wallace Award, an honor presented each year to the top shortstop in college baseball.

That recognition says plenty about the season Garcia has put together for the Red Raiders. The Huntington Beach, California, native has quickly become one of the most reliable bats in the Texas Tech lineup, hitting .367 with a team-best 62 hits.

He’s also produced 45 RBIs, scored 47 runs, and added 14 doubles and four home runs.

What makes the honor even more impressive is Garcia’s age and experience.

He’s the only freshman included among the 15 semifinalists, a sign that his production has stood out on a national level, not just within the Big 12 race.

Garcia has stayed hot in recent games, too. He ended a long home run drought over the weekend at Utah by opening the fourth inning with a leadoff blast.

Then he came right back against Tarleton and delivered one of his best offensive nights of the year, going 4-for-5 while driving in the run that sealed a run-rule victory.

That outing marked Garcia’s 20th multi-hit game of the season, another team-high mark that shows just how consistent he’s been from opening day through the heart of the schedule.

For Texas Tech, Garcia’s emergence has been a major boost. For Garcia, it’s another step in what’s already becoming one of the most impressive freshman campaigns in the country.

If he keeps swinging it like this, the Red Raiders shortstop won’t just be a semifinalist for long.
