Texas Tech could get two of its key offensive options back soon, as the Red Raiders got encouraging news for both Cameron Dickey and Thomas Castellanos during the bye week.
LUBBOCK - No. 11 Texas Tech got another gritty win this past week, as the Red Raiders raced all the way back for a 29-7 victory over Colorado.
Despite notching the fifth-straight win to open the latest campaign, Texas Tech suffered a loss elsewhere.
Sensational running back Cameron Dickey exited the matchup with a leg injury, which was later confirmed to be a high-ankle sprain.
Dickey's absence was made evident throughout the rest of the game, especially in the first half.
The Red Raiders failed on a fourth down try on the very next play following his exit and were stuffed on another pivotal fourth down from short yardage later in the half.
Texas Tech was able to get firing on all cylinders on offense after the break and outscored Colorado 26-0, with most of that late success coming off opportunities gifted by the defense.
The Buffaloes tossed four interceptions and were held scoreless in the second half in a complete reversal for the home team.
Following the comeback win, there was initial good news for Texas Tech regarding Dickey, as head coach Joey McGuire shared that the injury was not believed to sideline the rusher for an extended period of time.
During his bye week media availability, McGuire reiterated this brief hiatus and provided a more in-depth timetable for his return.
"I would go bye week, Arizona State, Cincinnati. Probably back after the Cincinnati game," revealed McGuire after being asked when Dickey could expected to make his comeback.
With J'Koby Williams and Quinten Joyner still in the lineup, the Red Raiders are one of the few teams in the sport that can not only manage the injury but thrive in it.
Another part of Texas Tech's offense was out of commission in Boulder, but it was not due to any kind of injury or ailment.
In the latest legal twist faced by the program this season, fifth-year quarterback Thomas Castellanos saw his eligibility stripped away days before the trip to Colorado.
A Kentucky court dissolved the temporary restraining order that had initially provided Castellanos and other members of the class of 2022 protection to suit up this season.
Although he is not the main starter under center for Texas Tech, Castellanos had provided a reliable red zone and short yardage for the Red Raiders.
Based on the previously mentioned woes early against the Buffs, he could have been a difference-maker.
And Texas Tech may not have to wait much longer to get his talents back at its disposal.
According to reports out of Kentucky, a new court hearing for Castellanos and other athletes is set for Oct. 14.
If the ruling goes in his favor, Castellanos should be back on the field as soon as the next weekend against Arizona State in Lubbock.
In the meantime, Texas Tech will work to iron out some wrinkles that have caused headaches all season long during the bye week before hosting the Sun Devils for Homecoming.
