Texas Tech continues to build depth in every phase of the program, including specialists.
On Wednesday, Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders added another key piece to their 2026 recruiting haul, as long snapper Reed Price signed an athletic scholarship with the program.
Price arrives as one of the top specialist prospects in the country. A standout at Highland High School in Gilbert, Arizona, he earned second-team All-State honors during his senior season.
He quickly drew national attention for his consistency, velocity, and accuracy in the snapping game. His performance placed him among the elite at his position, earning a coveted invitation to the 2026 Under Armour All-America Game in DeLand, Florida.
Recruiting evaluators have also taken notice. Kohl’s Professional Camps awarded Price a five-star rating and ranked him among the top 10 long snappers nationally.
For a position where precision and reliability are paramount, that kind of evaluation speaks volumes about his long-term potential.
There’s also a familiar Texas Tech connection in Price’s background. He attended the same high school as former Red Raider punter Austin McNamara, who went on to become Texas Tech’s all-time leader in career punting average before departing after the 2023 season and later joining the New York Jets organization.
Price was coached by McNamara’s father, Brian McNamara, Highland’s longtime specialists coach, continuing a pipeline that has already produced success at the collegiate level.
“Reed is one of the top long snappers in the country,” McGuire said. “Coach Kenny Perry identified him early, and we’re excited about what he’ll bring to our specialist room.”
Price will not arrive in Lubbock immediately, as he plans to serve a two-year Mormon mission before enrolling, placing his expected on-field debut in the 2028 season.
That timeline fits seamlessly into Texas Tech’s long-term roster planning, especially at a position that values development and experience.
His commitment further strengthens a 2026 recruiting class that has climbed as high as No. 17 nationally according to 247Sports - the highest ranking in program history since modern recruiting services began tracking classes.
Price becomes the 21st high school signee in the class and the lone addition during the February signing window.
Combined with one of the nation’s top transfer portal classes and momentum from a historic season that included a Big 12 Championship and College Football Playoff appearance, Texas Tech’s attention to detail - even at specialist positions - signals a program intent on sustaining championship-level success.
