Texas Tech added four-star Argyle receiver Julian Caldwell, beating Texas and Oregon for one of the top in-state playmakers in the 2027 class.
Texas Tech football recruiting keeps stacking major wins inside the state, and Saturday brought another big one. Julian Caldwell, a four-star wide receiver from Argyle, Texas, committed to the Red Raiders over Texas and Oregon, giving Joey McGuire’s 2027 class another elite offensive weapon.
Caldwell is ranked No. 59 in the SC Next 300 and is ESPN’s No. 12 wide receiver in the 2027 cycle.
At 6-1 and 185 pounds, he brings the size, production and polish that should fit quickly into Texas Tech’s passing game.
His junior season at Argyle showed why so many national programs wanted him. Caldwell caught 94 passes for 1,737 yards and 20 touchdowns, putting himself among the most productive receivers in Texas high school football.
For Texas Tech, this commitment is also another sign that the program’s momentum is real. The Red Raiders now have pledges from seven of the top 40 Texas prospects in the 2027 SC Next 300, more than any other program.
That group already includes five-star defensive tackle Jalen Brewster, the No. 1 overall recruit in the class, and quarterback Kavian Bryant, ranked No. 48 nationally.
Caldwell’s decision also continues a strong run of recruiting wins against heavyweight programs. Texas Tech recently beat Texas and Texas A&M for four-star DeSoto running back SaRod Baker, and now it has taken Caldwell from a final group that included the Longhorns and Ducks.
The relationships mattered. Texas Tech offered Caldwell before his sophomore season, and the Red Raiders stayed involved throughout his recruitment. He also sees a clean schematic fit and a real chance to play early.
After winning the Big 12 and reaching the College Football Playoff, Texas Tech isn’t recruiting like an underdog anymore. Caldwell’s pledge is another reminder that the Red Raiders are becoming a serious national force.
