Texas Tech Lands Hofstra Star cover image

Texas Tech basketball added transfer guard Cruz Davis after a breakout Hofstra season where he averaged 20.1 points and led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament.

Texas Tech basketball has added a major scoring weapon for the 2026-27 season, landing Hofstra transfer Cruz Davis to bolster Grant McCasland’s backcourt.

The veteran guard arrives in Lubbock after a huge junior season in which he averaged 20.1 points, 4.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while guiding Hofstra to the NCAA Tournament.

For Texas Tech, this is the kind of transfer addition that can immediately reshape an offense.

Davis is a proven shot-maker, an experienced ball-handler and a player who’s already shown he can thrive with a heavy workload.

He started all 35 games last season, played nearly 38 minutes per night and ranked among the national leaders in time on the floor.

That kind of durability and production should make him an instant factor for the Red Raiders.

The Plano native also gives Texas Tech a player with serious range. Davis knocked down 82 3-pointers last season at a 40.0 percent clip and has hit 152 from beyond the arc in his college career.

He topped 20 points 18 times, posted five 30-point games and exploded for a career-high 36 points at Pitt.

He also dropped 30 in a conference tournament win over William & Mary and posted 22 points with nine assists in a win over Syracuse.

Davis has taken an interesting road back to Texas. Before becoming the CAA Player of the Year at Hofstra, he spent time at St. John’s and Iona, building a resume that now includes 1,327 career points in 95 games.

At Iona, he earned All-MAAC Rookie Team recognition, and after an injury-shortened stint at St. John’s, he found his rhythm and star power at Hofstra.

Texas Tech is coming off another NCAA Tournament season under McCasland, who has quickly turned the Red Raiders into one of the Big 12’s toughest programs.

Adding Davis gives Tech an established scorer with experience, confidence and the kind of offensive firepower that can change games in a hurry.
