Texas Tech closed spring football with a lively scrimmage as Brendan Sorsby flashed at quarterback and several transfers made strong first impressions.
Texas Tech football wrapped up spring practice Friday night with its annual Texas Tech Spring Game at Jones AT&T Stadium, giving Red Raiders fans their first in-person look at several key newcomers and a glimpse at how the 2026 roster is beginning to take shape.
More than 5,000 fans showed up in Lubbock, and the night ended with quarterback Brendan Sorsby stealing the spotlight.
The spring game featured roughly 90 minutes of live work, mixing situational football, 7-on-7 periods and competitive red-zone sequences.
That format created plenty of chances for Texas Tech’s new faces to stand out, and Sorsby took full advantage.
The transfer quarterback threw multiple touchdown passes, including the game-ending score to Micah Hudson after a defensive penalty kept the final drive alive.
Sorsby’s first touchdown of the night came on a short scoring pass to Jett Carpenter, another newcomer who made an immediate impact.
Later, Sorsby connected with Jalen Jones on an 18-yard touchdown and then found Donte Lee Jr. for a 25-yard strike as the offense battled the defense in the final scoring segment.
The defense still had its moments. Peyton Morgan, who is pushing for a starting spot at safety, came up with an interception during one of the situational periods.
The defensive group also forced a missed field goal and delivered a key fourth-down stop late, nearly doing enough to claim the final session before the offense answered.
Off the field, Texas Tech used halftime to recognize several standout performers from the 2025 season. David Bailey and Jacob Rodriguez shared Team MVP honors, while Behren Morton received the Dell Morgan Memorial Courage Award.
Rodriguez was on hand to accept his honor as several former Red Raiders returned for the weekend festivities.
Now spring ball is in the books, and Texas Tech shifts focus to finals, summer workouts and preseason camp.
The Red Raiders will open the 2026 season on Sept. 5 at home against Abilene Christian, with growing excitement around a roster that already looks deeper and more dynamic.
