Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby has entered the transfer portal, and his social media activity is pointing him toward the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

LUBBOCK, Texas - As the Texas Tech Red Raiders prepare for their College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup on Dec. 31 vs. either Oregon or James Madison, quarterback Behren Morton is set to continue etching his name into Red Raider history by extending the best season in program history.

Morton is a senior this season, so with buzz in the transfer portal stirring up this week, I don't doubt that Tech football general manager James Blanchard is staying alert to who the next Red Raider gunslinger could be in 2026 after the Morton graduates. That need for extra planning increased when backup Will Hammond tore his ACL at midseason, completely altering the expected plans for the position in this upcoming cycle.

One name is now making waves on social media, and it's his own activity with a Texas Tech volleyball commitment that is connecting his name to the Red Raiders.

Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby announced that he plans to enter the transfer portal Monday afternoon. The dual-threat QB posted 2,800 passing yards, 27 touchdowns through the air, 580 rushing yards and nine more scores on the ground for the Bearcats this season.

Once the news broke, a handful of Red Raider football players made their online to repost or comment approval and recruitment messages, including TE Terrence Carter Jr., OL Howard Sampson and DB Brice Pollock - who are all slated to return in 2026.

Hours after his announcement, Sorsby reposted a commitment announcement from volleyball player Gretchen Sigman, a sophomore outside hitter at Cincinnati who is now committed to Texas Tech for next season.

It's not confirmed whether Sigman and Sorsby are in an official relationship, but the quarterback reposted Sigman's post on his Instagram story and commented "Love this" with a heart-hands emoji.

Coincidence in timing? Or strategic crafting that foreshadows a new power couple in Lubbock?

The Red Raiders had one of the best transfer portal classes in the country last season after the partnership between the athletic department and football-alum-turned-oil-tycoon Cody Campbell to build one of the nation's largest NIL funds.

This year, Tech will have a pool of elite quarterbacks to pursue other than the Denton, TX native Sorsby.

Former five-star Willis HS (TX) star DJ Lagway is transferring out of Florida after the Gators hired new head coach John Sumrall from CFP-bound Tulane. Nebraska starter Dylan Raiola - a visual clone of Tech legend Patrick Mahomes in social media jokes - is also in the portal.

CBS Sports lists Texas Tech and Indiana as schools to be aware of in the early recruitment of Sorsby, who said he will first explore his projected status in the NFL Draft scouting process before choosing his next path. Indiana's Fernando Mendoza is likely a top-10 pick in the first round after winning the Heisman Trophy this weekend, leaving the Big Ten champion and CFP top seed likely looking for a new quarterback for next season.

"Sorsby is a bigger quarterback whose ability and willingness to run with the ball are things that would work wonders in [Tech offensive coordinator] Mack Leftwich's offense," said Nathan Giese of Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.

There will be many factors that contribute to Sorsby's eventual commitment, but the two largest in this day and age - money and winning - are two points Tech has built a strong reputation in this season.

The Red Raiders may also have the upper hand in the form of a special someone on the volleyball team.
