Texas Tech men’s golf delivered one of the strongest performances in college golf this season, storming past No. 1 Auburn to win the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club this week.
The Red Raiders entered the final round trailing by two shots, then flipped the leaderboard with a blistering closing round to secure their first tournament title of the 2025-26 season.
That makes this Texas Tech men’s golf win more than just another strong finish. In a field packed with elite teams, the Red Raiders finished at 45-under-par 807, setting a new tournament record and beating Auburn by six shots.
The Red Raiders also finished comfortably ahead of No. 6 Texas and No. 7 Arkansas, making the result even more impressive from a national standpoint.
Ben Gregg led the charge with the best finish of his college career.
Gregg tied for third at 13-under 200 after posting back-to-back 66s in the second and third rounds. He piled up 18 birdies, tied for the most in the tournament, and was nearly flawless on par 4s, finishing 7-under on those holes.
His surge gave Texas Tech exactly the kind of front-line scoring needed to chase down the nation’s top-ranked team.
But this was a lineup win as much as anything. Tim Wiedemeyer finished right behind Gregg at 12-under 201, bouncing back from an even-par opening round with a 64 and a 66.
Connor Graham closed at 9-under 204, Brady McHenry came in at 6-under 207, and Adam Bresnu finished 4-under 209. Every player in the lineup ended the event under par, which is usually how championships are won against a field like this.
Texas Tech’s final-round 17-under 267 slammed the door.
After two runner-up finishes earlier this spring, the Red Raiders finally broke through. And they did it in the kind of event that could carry real momentum into the postseason.
