Malik Olajuwon is rated a four star by ESPN in the class of 2027.
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech men's basketball has extended a scholarship offer to class of 2027 guard Malik Olajuwon, the son of NBA legend and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon.
Malik, a 6-4 prospect out of Clements High School in the Houston suburbs, is rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN.
ESPN ranks Olajuwon as the No. 6 player in the state of Texas for the rising senior class, meaning his father's alma mater, Houston, a growing powerhouse in college hoops, could come calling soon.
Olajuwon has received offers from major programs such as Kansas State, Auburn, TCU and SMU in addition to the Red Raiders, with many of those calls flooding in in recent days.
This past week, college coaches were in attendance of the TABC Showcase in the DFW, where 247Sports noted Olajuwon as a standout player on the weekend. Texas Tech must have had their eyes on him if his performance was enough to get Grant McCasland to extend the opportunity.

"From the opening tip, Olajuwon was effective getting to his spots and knocking down jumpers from both the mid-range and behind the arc," said scout Brandon Jenkins. "He plays with excellent rhythm, shows impressive shoulder movement with the ball, and is comfortable creating offense with the rock in his hands.
"What makes his upside intriguing is how he is in the beginning stages of putting it all together. He was already a prospect we had been monitoring from afar a year ago, but over the past six months he has grown two inches and still possesses a frame that is in the early stages of developing."
Earlier on in the summer, Malik competed on Canada's U18 national team in the AmeriCup, where he averaged 9.2 points in 14.2 minutes per game across five appearances.
Hakeem "The Dream", the Hall of Famer of the Houston Rockets who is widely regarded as one of the best big men in NBA history, also has another son who is just entering college basketball. Aziz Olajuwon, a 6-7 forward and top-40 recruit in the 2026 class, committed to Stanford last September after spending his final prep season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
With the Olajuwon family making a name for itself even more in the college ranks, it's now clear Texas Tech is among the teams dreaming about the young Malik joining its program.
