Texas Tech women’s tennis begins its 14th straight NCAA Tournament appearance Saturday against No. 36 Yale in Austin.
Texas Tech women’s tennis is back in the NCAA Tournament, and the Lady Raiders have a tricky opening test waiting in Austin.
No. 28 Texas Tech earned a No. 2 seed in the Austin Regional and will face No. 36 Yale at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Texas Tennis Center.
It’s the program’s 14th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, a streak that continues to show Tech’s staying power on the national stage.
The winner advances to Sunday’s second round against either No. 9 Texas or Tarleton.
Texas Tech enters at 18-10 after a strong Big 12 Tournament run, where the Lady Raiders beat Houston and No. 11 Arizona State before falling to eventual champion TCU in the semifinals.
Tech also has history on its side against Yale, owning a 3-0 all-time record against the Bulldogs, including a 4-0 win in 2023.
Hailey Murphy has led Texas Tech in singles with a 14-6 dual record, including 12 wins at the No. 1 spot. Yekaterina Dmitrichenko has added 11 singles victories, with nine coming on court two.
Together, Murphy and Dmitrichenko have been even better in doubles. The duo owns a 22-3 record at No. 1 doubles and recently earned All-Big 12 First Team Doubles honors.
Murphy also made the All-Big 12 First Team in singles, while Dmitrichenko landed on the second team.
Yale won’t be an easy out. The Bulldogs are 19-3, shared the Ivy League title and are coming off their best win total since the 2011-12 season.
Leena Friedman, the Ivy League Rookie of the Year, is one of several Yale players who earned conference honors.
For Texas Tech, the path is clear: grab the doubles point, lean on Murphy and Dmitrichenko and keep the NCAA streak alive.
