
Kaitlyn Terry fired a one-hitter as No. 2/4 Texas Tech shut out Baylor 5-0 to open the series in Lubbock.
Texas Tech softball opened its Baylor series with another statement win, and Kaitlyn Terry made sure the Red Raiders never had to sweat much.
No. 2/4 Texas Tech beat Baylor 5-0 Thursday night at Tracy Sellers Field, improving to 49-4 overall and 20-2 in conference play.
Terry was dominant from the first inning, tossing a complete-game one-hitter with nine strikeouts to earn her 21st victory of the season.
The left-hander allowed just one walk and one hit across seven innings, moving to 21-1 on the year.
She also threw 102 pitches, marking the first time this season she crossed the 100-pitch mark. It was her sixth shutout of the season.
Texas Tech didn’t need a huge offensive night, but the Red Raiders did enough. Taylor Pannell opened the scoring in the second inning with a sacrifice fly after Tech loaded the bases. Baylor escaped further trouble, but Terry kept the Bears quiet.
The Red Raiders added another run in the fourth when Lauren Allred ripped an RBI single up the middle after Mia Williams and Jackie Lis reached base.
Baylor’s only hit came in the fourth inning on a two-out single.
The big swing came in the sixth. Williams led off with her 18th double of the season, moving into second place in Texas Tech history for doubles in a single year.
Lis walked for the third time, and Jasmyn Burns followed by crushing her 14th home run of the season on the first pitch she saw.
Burns now has 44 RBIs on the year.

Pannell finished 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Lis reached in all three plate appearances and scored twice. Texas Tech also drew eight walks and didn’t strike out once, putting constant pressure on Baylor’s pitching staff.
The Red Raiders will look to clinch the series Friday at 6 p.m. CT in Lubbock.
