Texas Tech’s 2026 signing class already looked promising. Then Kaegan Ash went and rewrote the history books.
The Mount Enterprise star, a four-star athlete in the 2026 cycle per 247Sports, just became the all-time rushing yards leader in Texas high school history, finishing his prep career with a staggering 11,382 rushing yards. That total breaks the legendary mark held by "Sugar Land Express" Kenneth Hall, a record that stood for more than 70 years and was widely considered untouchable.

Even wilder? Ash isn't heading to Lubbock to be a star running back. He plans to play linebacker for Texas Tech.
Ash didn't just edge past Hall's record, he blew by one of the greatest seasons in state history. Hall's historic 4,045-yard campaign was finally topped when Ash ripped off 4,322 rushing yards this season, anchoring an absurd four-year run of production in which he averaged more than 258 rushing yards per game and logged 41 games with 100+ yards.
And the records don't stop there.
Ash also broke the national single-season scoring record held by Brett Law since 1998. With 77 touchdowns and 32 two-point conversions, he posted 484 points this year, surpassing Hall's long-standing mark of 453. Every Friday night, the scoreboard operator basically lived in the "touchdown" position.
Yet, Ash is far more than just a volume runner.
He became a multi-faceted weapon at Mount Enterprise, splitting time at quarterback and adding 14 receptions for 508 yards and nine touchdowns as a pass catcher. On defense, where he'll likely live in Lubbock, he piled up 251 career tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, nine forced fumbles and two interceptions at linebacker - a preview of what Red Raider fans hope is coming to the Jones.
The athletic profile only adds more fuel to the hype.

Ash is a bronze medalist in the Texas 2A triple jump and a standout on the hardwood, averaging more than 16 points, seven rebounds, two steals and an assist per game as a junior.
247Sports' Gabe Brooks labels him a "dynamic small-school all-phase playmaker" with elite testing numbers and a high-ceiling developmental arc, noting he’s even more dominant at the same level than Kendre Miller was at the same stage.
Ash chose Texas Tech during the early signing period over offers from Texas State, Air Force, Army, Navy, UTEP, UTSA, Washington State and multiple FCS programs.
Ranked No. 214 nationally, No. 10 among athletes and No. 32 in Texas, he arrives in Lubbock not just as a signee ... but as the new standard-bearer for high school rushing in the state of Texas.
Record breaker today. Future Red Raider enforcer tomorrow.
