Texas Tech softball rolled past Utah 10-2 Friday as Jackie Lis homered twice and NiJaree Canady struck out seven in another dominant Red Raiders win.

Texas Tech softball kept rolling Friday night, and once again the Red Raiders looked every bit like the nation’s top team.

Behind a huge night from Jackie Lis and another strong outing from NiJaree Canady, No. 1 Texas Tech powered past Utah 10-2 in Salt Lake City to open the series in commanding fashion.

The Red Raiders improved to 39-2 overall and 15-1 in Big 12 play, using a deep lineup and explosive extra-base hitting to overwhelm the Utes.

Texas Tech finished with 12 hits, including four home runs, two doubles and two triples, in another statement performance as the postseason gets closer.

Lis led the charge at the plate. She launched two home runs and added a triple, continuing her standout season and helping Texas Tech break the game open.

Mia Williams also went deep, giving her 15 home runs on the year, while Mihyia Davis added another blast as the Red Raiders kept putting pressure on Utah’s pitching staff.

Canady, one of the biggest stars in college softball, delivered on both sides of the game.

In the circle, she improved to 16-2 after working 5.2 innings, allowing two runs and striking out seven.

At the plate, she went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, showing again why she’s one of the sport’s most complete players.

Texas Tech got on the board early with help from a Utah miscue before the offense erupted in the third inning.

Canady sparked the frame with a double, Kaitlyn Terry drove in a run with a single, and Williams followed with a two-run homer. Just a few pitches later, Lis sent another ball out of the yard to stretch the lead to 5-0.

Terry finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and turned in one of the game’s most unusual highlights, racing around for a Little League-style home run that was officially scored a triple plus an error.

Utah managed to score twice late, but Samantha Lincoln shut the door with 1.1 perfect innings in relief. Texas Tech will try to lock up the series Saturday.
