No. 2 Texas Tech softball returns home this weekend with plenty of momentum and even more reason to believe this team can keep stacking wins.
The Red Raiders, now 35-2 overall and 11-1 in Big 12 play, will welcome BYU to Lubbock for a three-game conference series that begins Thursday night at Tracy Sellers Field.
Texas Tech softball has been one of the hottest teams in the country, riding a 10-game winning streak into the weekend after back-to-back Big 12 series sweeps over UCF and Iowa State.
Gerry Glasco’s club continues to look like a national title contender, combining elite pitching, explosive offense and veteran production across the lineup.
A big reason why is NiJaree Canady, who keeps adding to her remarkable career. The Red Raiders ace is closing in on 1,000 career strikeouts and remains one of the most dominant pitchers in college softball.
She’s also already made program history after becoming the first Texas Tech player to earn an AUSL Golden Ticket, a major milestone for the reigning National Pitcher of the Year.
Offensively, Texas Tech has no shortage of stars. Kaitlyn “KT” Terry has been sensational, hitting .538 through 37 games while also posting a perfect 14-0 record and a 1.86 ERA in the circle.
Mihyia Davis continues to cement her place among the sport’s elite, entering the series with 313 career hits and 130 stolen bases.
Jackie Lis is another bat BYU will have to deal with after her huge week at the plate, when she hit .818 and continued her push up the career home run charts.

BYU enters the series with a losing record, but the Cougars have shown enough fight in conference play to avoid being overlooked.
Even so, the Red Raiders appear built to control the weekend. With national exposure on Friday night and a chance to keep rolling in the Big 12 race, Texas Tech has the spotlight and the firepower.
