Texas Tech softball dropped from No. 1 but still sits firmly in the top four nationally after a 40-win milestone and another explosive road victory.

Texas Tech softball may no longer hold the No. 1 spot, but the Red Raiders are still parked right in the heart of the national title conversation.

After splitting part of a demanding road swing, Texas Tech checked in at No. 2 and No. 3 across the four major college softball polls, keeping the program among the sport’s elite heading into another busy week.

That matters because this Texas Tech softball team keeps stacking up wins, and doing it in dramatic fashion.

The Red Raiders improved to 41-3 after an offense-filled 17-7 victory over Utah State, a game that showed exactly why this club remains one of the toughest outs in the country.

Even after a stumble against Utah ended Tech’s run at the top, the Red Raiders still came away with a series victory and continued to build one of the strongest résumés in college softball.

Reaching the 40-win mark for a second straight season is another sign of how steady this program has become.

That kind of consistency hasn’t happened often in Lubbock, and it speaks to the standard this roster has set. Texas Tech’s lineup has kept the pressure on opponents all season, and its ability to answer adversity was on full display in the wild win over Utah State.

Now the focus shifts to the final leg of a grueling six-games-in-six-days stretch.

Texas Tech faces UTSA in San Antonio before traveling to Texas State, then finally gets a chance to breathe with the weekend off.

The ranking slide may grab attention, but the bigger story is this: Texas Tech is still very much in the hunt for a Women’s College World Series run, and the Red Raiders haven’t looked anything close to finished.
