Texas Tech basketball star Christian Anderson is making serious noise on the national stage again.
The Red Raiders’ sophomore guard has been named one of the USBWA Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week, marking the second time this season the Texas Tech standout has earned the honor.
Anderson’s latest recognition comes after a monster week that showcased why he’s becoming one of the most electric players in college basketball.
In Texas Tech’s win over Cincinnati, Anderson delivered a jaw-dropping 31 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, recording his eighth double-double of the season while stuffing the stat sheet across the board.
He followed that performance with 14 points, seven assists and three rebounds in a massive road victory over No. 4 Iowa State, helping the No. 10-ranked Red Raiders continue their push toward the postseason.
For the week, Anderson averaged 22.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists, numbers that quickly grabbed the attention of national voters.
His dominance hasn’t been limited to one stretch, either.
Anderson has been one of the most productive guards in the country all season. The sophomore currently leads the Big 12 with 7.7 assists per game, which ranks third nationally, while also pouring in 19.4 points per game, fifth best in the conference.
Anderson’s scoring ability stretches defenses well beyond the arc. He has already knocked down 96 3-pointers this season, connecting on 43.2 percent from deep, which ranks among the best marks in the country.
His 3.43 made 3s per game currently places him inside the national top ten.
His playmaking has been equally historic. Anderson has 215 assists this season, the second-highest total in Texas Tech history, and he’s closing in on the program’s single-season record of 226 assists set by Elijah Hawkins.
National recognition has followed. Anderson is currently listed on both the Wooden Award and Naismith Player of the Year watch lists, placing him firmly among the top players in college basketball.
Through 63 career games, Anderson has totaled 914 points and 292 assists, while shooting 40.8 percent from 3-point range for his career.
With Texas Tech entering the final stretch of the regular season, Anderson isn’t just leading the Red Raiders ... he’s becoming one of the faces of the sport.
