Texas Tech is trending hard for four-star tackle Austin Attalah, the No. 3 offensive tackle nationally, ahead of his Tuesday commitment announcement.
Texas Tech may be on the verge of landing one of the biggest recruiting wins of the Joey McGuire era.
Four-star offensive tackle Austin Attalah is set to announce his commitment Tuesday on The Pat McAfee Show, and the Red Raiders have emerged as the clear favorite heading into decision day.
That’s no small deal.
Attalah is ranked as the No. 21 overall player, No. 3 offensive tackle and No. 1 prospect in California in the Rivals industry rankings. At 6-7 and 290 pounds, he already looks like the kind of tackle programs build around.
And Texas Tech has apparently made a serious impression.
Attalah has visited Lubbock twice during his recruitment, and those trips have helped the Red Raiders gain major momentum over USC and Texas.
Now the predictions are stacking up.
Rivals analysts Adam Gorney, Sam Spiegelman and Steve Wiltfong have all projected Attalah to Texas Tech, while the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine currently gives the Red Raiders a 97.2 percent chance of landing him.
That doesn’t make Tuesday a formality.
But it certainly tells you where things stand.
For McGuire, this would be another statement that Texas Tech isn’t limiting itself geographically. Pulling the top-ranked player in California away from USC - while also beating Texas for a national top-25 prospect - would be exactly the kind of recruiting victory that changes how the program is viewed.
It would also strengthen an already important 2027 class.
Attalah currently plays for Orange Lutheran after previously suiting up for Cajon in San Bernardino. His combination of size, length and national ranking makes him one of the most valuable offensive line prospects still on the board.
And offensive tackles like this aren’t easy to find.
Texas Tech has spent the McGuire era trying to build a roster capable of competing with the biggest programs in the country. That means winning battles exactly like this one.
The Red Raiders still have to finish the job Tuesday.
But if the predictions hold, Texas Tech is about to add a massive piece - literally and figuratively - to its future offensive line.
And beating USC and Texas for him would make the commitment even sweeter.
