The nation's top defensive lineman is headed east, but currently still has his eyes set on West Texas for his next stop.
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Jalen Brewster, the defensive lineman ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the 2027 high school class, has announced that he is transferring to Buford High School in Georgia.
Brewster is committed to Texas Tech. He previously attended Cedar Hill High School in the Dallas area, the same school where Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire won several state championship games.
While the change is abrupt as school is set to get underway, Brewster clarified what drove him to the decision.
"Transferring to Buford came down to what was best for my future," he said in a statement. "This move allows me to reach my goal of graduating in December while staying on track academically and athletically. I'm grateful for my time at Cedar Hill and excited for what's ahead at Buford."
Buford is coming off an undefeated season in 2025, and currently ranked No. 7 in the country by MaxPreps.
And speaking of what's next, Brewster remains committed to the Red Raiders, but LSU and Florida have been among those making a serious push for him.
Reports about the 6-3, 300-pounder's claim that he will confirm his commitment very soon.
Brewster would be the top-rated Texas Tech recruit in program history, surpassing incoming freshman edge rusher LaDamion Guyton, who reclassified up a year from 2027 to 2026 to join McGuire's team earlier.
When Guyton began working out at fall camp earlier this month, Brewster showed his support by reposting photos of the freshman defender and his potential teammate.
The two already have familiarity, as they took part in the Under Armour All-American game together this past winter.
Some believe Brewster's status is still clouded with uncertainty as the prospect receives interest from other schools before signing day on Feb. 5, 2027. However, a shoutout like this suggests Brewster's firm commitment to the Red Raiders and his connection with Guyton. Brewster also has the Tech football program tagged in his social media profiles.
Before forming a potentially dominant duo, Guyton will get his Texas Tech career underway as a rotational edge rusher next to top veteran transfers Adam Trick and Trey White.
Texas Tech is a heavy favorite in the Big 12 after winning the conference title a year ago.
