Texas Tech fired Tuesday’s best round at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional, moving to fourth as Maja Ambroziak and Lauren Zaretsky chase the lead.
Texas Tech women’s golf picked the perfect time to make a move at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional.
The Red Raiders carded a 1-over 285 Tuesday at the University of Michigan Golf Course, the best second-round score in the 12-team field, and climbed into fourth place with one round left.
Texas Tech sits at 5-over 573, comfortably inside the top-five cut line for a trip to the NCAA Championship Finals.
It wasn’t just a steady round. It was a statement.
Ohio State leads the regional at 1-over 569, while Northwestern and No. 2 USC are tied for second at 2-over 570.
Texas Tech is three shots behind that group and three shots ahead of No. 10 Duke, which holds the fifth and final qualifying position at 8-over 576. No. 14 UCF is next at 13-over, giving the Red Raiders a little cushion heading into Wednesday.
Maja Ambroziak and Lauren Zaretsky have carried Texas Tech into contention. Both are tied for second individually at 3-under 139, four shots behind Northwestern’s Ashley Yun, who leads at 7-under.
Ambroziak followed her opening 69 with a 1-under 70, briefly getting to 2-under on the day after back-to-back late birdies before closing with a bogey.
Zaretsky delivered the bigger charge, shooting a 3-under 68 to vault from 15th into a tie for second. She played her final seven holes bogey-free at 3-under and finished with a birdie.
Klara Hurtova is tied for 35th at 7-over, Cameron Freund is tied for 40th at 8-over and Denisa Vodickova is tied for 45th at 10-over.
The final round begins Wednesday at 7 a.m. CT, with the top five teams advancing to the NCAA Championship Finals at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa from May 22-27.
