Texas A&M is a finalist for five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, the nation’s No. 1 OT, ahead of his Friday commitment.

Texas A&M football could be closing in on another huge recruiting win, and this one would come at a premium position.

Five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews is set to announce his commitment Friday, with Texas A&M, Miami, LSU and Georgia all still in the mix.

Matthews, a 6-5, 301-pound standout from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is rated as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country, the No. 6 overall player nationally and the No. 1 player in Florida, according to the Rivals industry ranking.

That’s the kind of player who can change the ceiling of an offensive line room.

The Aggies aren’t just hanging around in this recruitment, either. Texas A&M is viewed as the heavy favorite entering decision week, with the Rivals recruiting prediction machine giving the Aggies a 95.4 percent chance to land Matthews.

Miami is the next closest program at 1.9 percent, despite being the in-state option.

Texas A&M has been working this recruitment for a long time. The Aggies offered Matthews in January 2024 and have hosted him on multiple visits since then, giving head coach Mike Elko and his staff a chance to build real momentum.

If Matthews picks Texas A&M, he’d become another centerpiece in what is already viewed as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country.

He would also give the Aggies a fifth five-star pledge, joining safety Kamarui Dorsey, interior offensive lineman Kennedy Brown, edge rusher Zyron Forstall and cornerback Raylaun Henry.

For Texas A&M, landing Matthews would send a loud message: the Aggies aren’t just stacking stars, they’re building the trenches.
