Brendan Sorsby is headed for the 2026 NFL Supplemental Draft after a gambling scandal ended his Texas Tech career before it started.
Brendan Sorsby’s NFL Supplemental Draft push is officially one of the wildest quarterback stories of the 2026 offseason.
The former Texas Tech quarterback never took a snap for the Red Raiders, but he may still force NFL teams into a real debate this summer.
After a sports betting scandal wrecked his college eligibility, Sorsby is moving toward the 2026 NFL Supplemental Draft, where one desperate franchise could decide his talent is worth the risk.
And make no mistake, the talent is the reason this story isn’t already dead.
Sorsby has the size, production and athletic profile NFL teams chase. At 6-3 and 230 pounds, he looks the part of a modern pro quarterback.
Ameek Abdullah Jamal with Essentially Sports pointed to three NFL teams that might target Sorsby.
At Cincinnati last season, he threw for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns while adding 18 rushing scores.
That dual-threat ability made him one of the top transfer quarterbacks in the country before his planned move to Texas Tech collapsed.
The issue is the off-field baggage. Sorsby reportedly admitted to placing more than 9,000 wagers totaling about $90,000 during his college career at Indiana and Cincinnati, including bets connected to his own school’s team.
A local court initially opened the door for him to play at Texas Tech, but the Big 12 pushed back hard, creating a standoff the Red Raiders couldn’t afford to drag into the season.
Now Sorsby is out of the college game, his lawsuit has been dropped and the NFL is the next battlefield.
The question is which team blinks first.
The New York Jets make plenty of sense as a landing spot because they need quarterback upside and have enough 2027 draft capital to absorb a supplemental swing.
Even with Geno Smith in place and Cade Klubnik developing, New York could view Sorsby as a high-ceiling gamble worth stashing.
The Cleveland Browns are another obvious name. Deshaun Watson’s future remains messy, and the Shedeur Sanders-Dillon Gabriel pairing hasn’t exactly erased long-term questions.
Cleveland has lived in quarterback chaos for years, so taking another shot wouldn’t shock anyone.
The Arizona Cardinals are the wild card. Jacoby Brissett is the starter for now, Gardner Minshew is in the room and Carson Beck was drafted in the third round, but none of that guarantees Arizona is finished searching.
Sorsby’s accuracy under pressure will be studied closely, especially with his completion rate dipping in those situations. But his low pressure-to-sack rate shows he can escape trouble, extend plays and keep an offense alive.
That’s why this won’t be simple.
Brendan Sorsby comes with risk. He also comes with first-round traits. In the supplemental draft, that combination can get dangerous fast.
