Transfer QB Brendan Sorsby brings 5,600+ passing yards and big expectations to Texas Tech as the Red Raiders chase a Big 12 title run.

Texas Tech football may have just landed the quarterback who can change everything in Lubbock.

Transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby, previously at Cincinnati and Indiana, arrives with massive expectations as the Red Raiders prepare for the 2026 season following a disappointing College Football Playoff exit.

The move wasn’t subtle. It was strategic. Sorsby enters the Texas Tech program after becoming one of the highest-profile players in the 2026 NCAA transfer portal cycle, which featured only seven five-star transfers nationwide.

The veteran quarterback is expected to immediately elevate the Red Raiders' offense and give head coach Joey McGuire a legitimate star under center.

And according to insiders, the potential is enormous.

Chris Hummer of CBS Sports recently named Sorsby among 13 emerging players expected to dominate college football in 2026.

“Sorsby thrived at Cincinnati in a QB-friendly scheme. What positions him to emerge as a 2026 CFB superstar is opportunity. Texas Tech is the most talented roster in the Big 12, and Sorsby is a massive upgrade over Behren Morton.”

While those are bold words, the numbers suggest the hype might be justified.

Across two seasons at Cincinnati, Sorsby produced 5,613 passing yards, 45 touchdown passes, and just 12 interceptions. His dual-threat ability made him even more dangerous, adding 1,027 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns.

Even earlier in his career at Indiana, Sorsby showed flashes despite limited support. In the 2023 season, he posted 1,587 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions, while also rushing for 286 yards and four scores.

Now he’s stepping into a dramatically different situation. Texas Tech has quietly become one of the most aggressive NIL programs in college football, fueled by major backing from billionaire booster and former Red Raider offensive lineman Cody Campbell.

Reports indicate Sorsby’s NIL agreement with Texas Tech is worth roughly $5.1 million, reflecting just how committed the program is to building a championship roster.

And expectations are already sky-high. Hummer predicts an explosive season ahead.

“Expect Sorsby to throw for 3,000-plus yards, Texas Tech to win 10-plus games, and Sorsby to be in the mix for the Heisman. He's already enjoyed outsized success in the Big 12 the last two seasons. Now, he'll benefit from a new scheme and the most talented roster in the conference.”

If those projections hold true, the Red Raiders might not just be a contender in the Big 12 — they could become one of the most dangerous teams in college football in 2026.
