A pair of Tulane Green Wave special teams standouts will now be taking their talents to the Sunshine State.
Kicker Patrick Durkin and punter Alec Clark quietly entered the transfer portal, ultimately committing to head coach Jon Sumrall and the Florida Gators on Tuesday. The pair had an outstanding 2025 season and were poised to continue cementing their names into the history books heading into next year. As they transition to the SEC, they will also reunite with former Green Wave special teams coordinator Johnathan Galante, who was elevated to the same position in Gainesville.
Durkin was named the American Conference Special Teams Player of the Year after an impressive 2025 campaign. The redshirt freshman went 25-for-28 on field goal attempts -- including 7-for-9 from 40 yards or more -- and 41-for-42 on extra point tries. He netted field goals of 50 yards or more four times this season with a long of 52 yards. Additionally, Durkin had 69 touchbacks on 80 total kickoffs this year.
The standout kicker ended the season with 116 total points to lead the entire American Conference across all positions. Durkin also recorded the most points by a kicker in school history and tied for the fifth-most of any position player.
Meanwhile, Clark was a talented special teams companion to Durkin, totaling 48 punts for an average of roughly 46.5 yards per attempt with a career-high 70-yard punt coming against the Northwestern Wildcats in the first game of the season. He was named a First-Team American Conference player at the end of the regular season.
This will the redshirt sophomore's fourth school. Clark started his college career with the Marshall Thundering Herd, spending the 2023 and 2024 seasons on the team. He followed head coach Charles Huff to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in the spring of 2025 before ultimately signing with Tulane.
The Green Wave will have some work to do to replace the standout special teams duo. Tulane does have one young kicker set to return next season in freshman Metairie native Cooper Helmke, but the team will undoubtedly need to pursue at least one more kicker in the transfer portal. Additionally, the team only has one active punter on the roster in William Hudlow, who had one punt on the season for 34 yards against the Charlotte 49ers.
There remains plenty of work to be done for head coach Will Hall and his staff as they look to keep the Green Wave as one of the top teams in the Group of Five.
