The Tulane Green Wave women's basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak on Tuesday night that they'll look to build on in Thursday's rematch with Memphis Tigers.

The Tulane Green Wave women’s basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak to improve to 9-16 (4-9 in American) with an important conference win over the Memphis Tigers on Tuesday night. The 63-58 victory was sparked by a tying layup in the final two minutes of action by guard Kendall Sneed that began a 9-2 run. The Tigers dropped to 8-17 and 2-10 in conference play. It was a rescheduled make-up game of the Jan. 27 postponed matchup during inclement weather from a winter storm and sets up now a rematch as the teams will meet for a second time in three days. This time, the Green Wave are back home at Avron B. Fogelman Arena for Thursday’s 6:30 pm tipoff.

Unfortunately, it’s not clear if the guard who sparked the comeback will be available for Thursday night’s game, as Sneed fell awkwardly at the end of Tuesday’s match and was carried off the court. Her MRI results are not yet known. Should Tulane have to do without Sneed, they had three players hit double figures in the win over Memphis. Amira Mabry led with 13 points, Kanija Daniels had 12 points, and Jayda Brown scored 11 points. Consistent rebounding was a contributing factor to the win, with seven players hitting at least four, and Mabry, Sneed, and CC Mays securing five each. Shiloh Simpson had a career-high seven assists. Daniels had a pair of blocks as well as Dyllan Hanna who recorded one.

Mabry soared up to 31st on Tulane’s all-time scoring list after recently hitting the 1,000-point mark. She sits at 1,030 total points heading into Thursday night – five points move her to 30th, while 10 more will put her at 29th on the all-time list. Another player to watch will be reigning American Freshman of the Week Mecailin Marshall, who notched six points in Tuesday’s win. It’s the third time this season she’s earned those honors, which is the second most in the American, and a third one well-earned with 34 points against East Carolina last week for the highest scoring output by a Tulane freshman since at least 1999.

It’ll be the first time the Green Wave has faced the same opponent in a back-to-back since 2021 against the Temple Owls – and Tulane won both. Thursday’s contest will be the 61st all time meeting between the Green Wave and the Tigers. Memphis holds a 33-27 lead that Tulane is working to shave off, with Tuesday’s win snapping a four-game win streak for the Tigers.
