The Tulane Green Wave are starting to shape up their quarterback room following an important evaluation of Saturday's scrimmage.

New Orleans, La. – While the official first depth chart for the Tulane Green Wave will be released on Monday, Aug. 24, things became a lot clearer on Day 10 of fall camp Monday.

For one, the quarterback competition was considerably pared down with the majority of the first team reps being split between Zeon Chriss-Gremillion and Kadin Semonza.

That was a stark change on Day 10 than the previous nine practices which featured those two splitting equal reps alongside freshman Trace Johnson and Dagan Bruno.

Now, reporters only can go off of what they saw on first glimpse in scrimmages, and Saturday’s scrimmage didn’t show a clear leader of the pack.

But after going back and watching some tape, it makes sense to let the veteran guys who have had stronger days continue to get stronger.

That translated to a bit more poise and command out Chriss-Gremillion and Semonza in Monday’s practice session in shells.

Both of those competitors threw several touchdowns today, with both hitting wide receiver Anthony Brown-Stephens in the outdoor team period.

It was a practice that began outside and then ended taking advantage of what was initially a controversial bubble in terms of size.

The value and benefit from it are clear as they headed into the air conditioning for a third time this fall camp. The first was due to inclement weather and lightning with the other two being planned out.

New Orleans is in the midst of a sweltering heat wave that makes any ability to get some reprieve valuable.

While special teams can’t get their full practice in the bubble, it was one of the first times they’ve done kickoff returns with Cooper Helmke getting some time at placekicker.

They mostly focused on skill, red zone and team work in the final hour in the bubble.

Running back Jaylin Lucas had a great touchdown run outside where position coach Brock Hays tracked him down after to highlight his good patience.

He really has an elusiveness to him that helps make up for one of those missed traits with Jamauri McClure being out with a foot injury.

It’s a running back room that was highly touted heading into camp, and one where several have said could withstand a season-ending injury or two.

Now, no one hopes for that, and that’s nothing like the weeks prognosis for McClure, but his absence has certainly helped the guys behind him get reps.

It’s clear that room will have a heavy involvement in the offense as they start to develop chemistry with the two signal callers starting to break away finally from the pack.
