The Tulane Green Wave track and field team had multiple top-10 program finishes at their outdoor competition in Raleigh.
The Tulane Green Wave track and field team wrapped up their second outdoor competition of the season over the weekend at the Raleigh Relays at Paul Derr Track Facility. On Saturday, the final day of the competition, the Green Wave had three top-10 finishes on the final day. It was certainly historic for Nahema Dumonteil Cabanas in the 400m hurdles, as she recorded a top-10 all time mark in program history. Saturday was mostly filled with women competitors for Tulane, including Presley Wolfe, who placed fifth in pole vault – the only competitor to finish in the top five on Saturday for the Wave with a mark of 3.72m.
Cara Salsberry also continued her electric performance in the outdoor competitions, with a hammer throw of 57.46m which was good for ninth place. If not for her own historic measure last week, she would have hit the second all-time mark at Tulane. Zaria Parker and Dumonteil Cabanas headlined the track highlights. Dumonteil Cabanas’ time of 1:00.69 in her 400m hurdles, good for the eighth-best time in program history, placed her 15th in the event. Parker ran the 200m, where she placed eighth with the lone top-10 track finish for the Wave on the day with a time of 24.09.
Then the women hit the 4x100m relay, which was a team of Bella Carroll, Cosette Fleury, Parker, and Brianna Brand. The quartet placed 24th with a 48.31 time. The team had four athletes compete in the women’s 800m, and Elena Liano-Rengel led the way, finishing 35th with a time of 2:09.70. She was followed by Jasper Newton, who was 68th with a mark of 2:11.56, Maria Alduan at 102nd with a time of 2:13.65, and Eliza Brand at 116th with a mark of 2:14.35.
In contrast, there weren’t too many male competitors for Tulane on Saturday, but the majority of the contingent competed in the men’s 800m. Roman Schrader paced the group of five runners with a time of 1:53.33 to place 91st.He was followed by Samual Cohen just one spot behind him, who hit a personal best with a 1:53.34 finish. Gilbert Rono placed 139th with a time of 1:54.62, and Daniel Reza rounded out the group at 180th with a mark of 1:56.29. The other male competitor for the Wave was Andrew Bamberg, who also ran a personal-best time of 22.59, which was good for 85th place.
All in all, it was quite a successful weekend highlighted by multiple personal bests and historic top-10 program marks. The team will continue their season at the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas next weekend, with the three-day competition beginning on Thursday, April 2.
