The rising Green Wave volleyball sophomroe had a stellar weekend recognized by the conference.
It’s been an impressive start to the year for the Tulane Green Wave volleyball team, who are on an eight-game win streak with their best start to league play since 2007.
The team put together by new Green Wave head volleyball coach Derek “Dex” Schroeder has been a strong one, and his track record for developing players has already shown in his work this campaign.
One of those players is Tulane volleyball sophomore Lauryn Mack, who was named the American Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her performance over the weekend.
It’s the second week running in which an outside hitter for the Green Wave secured offensive player of the week honors. Avery Burks earned the recognition back on Sept. 28.
Mack’s two impressive performances that played a large role in the Green Wave remaining undefeated in American Conference play at 4-0 secured the award.
Mack totaled 39.5 points, 36 kills, 26 digs, five total blocks, two assists, and one service ace in the conference victories over the Memphis Tigers and Wichita State Shockers this past weekend.
She hit a combined .280 across the two wins with an average of 4.39 points and 4.00 kills per set along with 2.89 digs per set.
Mack hails from Fort Worth, Tx., and the sophomore put up career-highs both in points and kills with 22.5 points and 20 kills in Tulane’s 3-2 win on the road Friday against the Tigers.
In the come-behind victory, Mack also posted nine digs, three total blocks, and an ace.
She simply built upon that stellar performance with another one against the Shockers in the victory that kicked off the first conference match of the season at home on Sunday.
Mack recorded a double-double with 16 kills and a career-best 17 digs in the 3-1 win.
She put up 17 points in the win along with two assists and a pair of blocks, capping off a strong weekend of play on the surging Wave volleyball squad.
The Wave will now look to continue building off their playmakers and strong start to conference play as they host a pair of league matches this upcoming weekend inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
Up first are the Charlotte 49ers, who the Wave are slated to play on Friday, Oct. 9 at 6:30 pm. Initially, there were some concerns about the tropical storm heading South, but that match is on as scheduled as of Wednesday. Next will be the UAB Blazers on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 pm.
