It's officially here: the opening of the transfer portal in college football.
As expected due to the head coaching change, quite a few Tulane Green Wave standouts have already submitted their names into the portal. However, there's one major need that must be filled, even without interference from the portal.
The Green Wave is already on the hunt for its next quarterback, as 2025 starter Jake Retzlaff will look to take his talents to the NFL after officially accepting an invite to the postseason Hula Bowl. He, along with backup signal-caller Brendan Sullivan, were out of eligibility regardless.
With the two primary quarterbacks gone, there's not a ton of experience left at the position for Tulane at the moment. Donovan Leary, who transferred in from Illinois ahead of the 2025 season, is back in the portal after never playing a down in Uptown. He had limited experience with the Fighting Illini during the 2024 season, but he could've been at least a decent, experienced backup for the Green Wave heading into the future.
That leaves just a handful of quarterbacks, most of whom are young with no college experience. Kadin Semonza is the lone exception to this -- the Ball State transfer didn't receive playing time for the Olive and Blue in 2025, but he had an impressive freshman year with the Cardinals that garnered him MAC Freshman of the Year honors. He's one player that would more than likely be given a shot at the starting position under Will Hall.
More players will enter the transfer portal in the coming days, but in the meantime, here are a few quarterbacks that are currently in the portal that might fit in well at Yulman Stadium.
This quarterback is what you could call the "long-shot, see-if-there's-a-chance" transfer portal player.
Pribula has reportedly been linked to upcoming visits with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Virginia Tech Hokies and Stanford Cardinal, but there's no reason to believe that he's limited to just those schools.
The senior spent three seasons with current Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions before playing this past year with the Missouri Tigers. During his time in the SEC, he completed 182-of-270 passes for 1,941 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions while rushing for six more scores. Pribula played in 10 games for the Tigers while battling an injury late in the season.
Jackson might be a risk, but he's a quarterback that Tulane should be willing to at least take a chance on.
The signal-caller has entered the portal once again after one season as a starter with the UCF Knights, throwing for 2,151 yards, 10 touchdowns and either interceptions. He had previous stints with the Tennessee Volunteers and Indiana Hoosiers.
Jackson struggled at times, but he's certainly got potential. He might not be the next All-American quarterback, but in a year in which Tulane is facing a lot of uncertainty, he brings plenty of experience to the locker room.
This is another SEC-to-elsewhere transfer that just might make sense.
Daniels appeared in four games for the Auburn Tigers this season, going 68-for-119 passing for 797 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He also added two scores on the ground. While those numbers might not be the best, the signal-caller was thrown into the fire on an Auburn team that struggled heavily this year. The Green Wave could give Daniels the reset he needs to perform to his highest potential.
There's some speculation that Daniels could return to play for Stanford after three seasons there, but in all honesty, it might be something he chooses to leave in the past.
