Trey Cehajic earned league honors after totaling a career high 11 strikeouts and earning the win in Friday's matchup against Eastern Kentucky.

The Tulane Green Wave baseball team's Friday night guy has earned his first major honor of the regular season.

On Monday, Trey Cehajic was named the American Conference Pitcher of the Week. Cehajic put together a career performance in Tulane's 5-4 victory over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels on Friday night, earning the win after giving up just one hit on the night while totaling a career-high 11 strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched. The double-digit strikeouts were the most by any American player so far this season.

Cehajic has quickly shown why he was named a First-Team Preseason All-Conference selection by esteemed baseball outlet Perfect Game. The graduate student out of Shreveport has helped the Green Wave to victories in all three of their Friday night games, undoubtedly fueled by strong starts by the standout. Cehajic has pitched a total of 13.1 innings through his trio of outings, amassing 20 strikeouts and giving up just eight hits and five runs while walking nine total batters.

The growth that the right-handed pitcher has shown since the 2025 season has been remarkable so far. Cehajic was given a heavy workload last season, ultimately appearing in 15 games and pitching 57.0 total innings. He finished the year with 57 strikeouts to 28 batters walked and gave up 66 hits and 31 earned runs. At this rate, Cehajic is on track to shatter those numbers.

Tulane sits at 8-4 on the season so far, with a pair of series victories and one sweep through the first three series of the year. While the program has struggled a bit in midweeks -- with lopsided losses to the top-ranked UCLA Bruins and the University of New Orleans Privateers -- the program has find a way to grind out wins on the weekends.

The Green Wave will face a scrappy Nicholls State Colonels squad in Thibodaux on Tuesday night before facing its biggest non-conference test later this week. Tulane will head to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on the TCU Horned Frogs in a major weekend series. The Horned Frogs are the 17th-ranked team in the nation according to D1 Baseball and come in at No. 21 in the coaches poll; the matchup gives the Green Wave a chance to see how it measures up against some strong competition.

First pitch for Tulane's in-state showdown with Nicholls State is set for 6 p.m. CT. Cehajic and the Green Wave will then start action against TCU on Friday with a 6 p.m. CT start time.
