The Knights solidified their 2027 class by flipping the Florida standout, securing a vital defensive playmaker to help replenish a secondary facing significant veteran departures next year.
The UCF Knights made a strong impression on three-star defensive back Tyler Walker Jr. on Saturday, and received his commitment one day later, finishing their last official visit weekend strong.
Walker Jr. becomes the 14th commit for UCF, the third defensive back and the 10th in-state recruit to join the 2027 class. His addition will bolster a senior-laden position group that will lose eight players after next season.
He chose the Knights over programs like Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Colorado and Georgia Tech. Although he originally committed to Coastal Carolina in March, he de-committed two months later, and his loyalty won't be a concern this time around.
“Nobody can compete with UCF, it wasn’t even a race," Walker Jr. told MagicRountable and Knights247 reporter Andrew Cherico. "I’ve dreamt about this since I was a kid. Charge on, let’s do it!”
The three-star defensive back plays for Rickards High School. He recorded 30 tackles, two sacks, two pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and one interception in his junior campaign. Walker Jr. displayed lockdown traits in his sophomore year with eight pass breakups.
Coach Scott Frost and his coaching staff have done a good job of impressing recruits during their official visits and finished strong for the last one. UCF hosted three-star Las Vegas quarterback Thaddeus Thatcher in the middle of the week, five-star punter James Reynolds -- who committed on Sunday as well -- and Walker Jr.
Ending the last official visit, landing two of the three visiting prospects is a promising sign for UCF and its future. Thatcher will make his commitment next Friday, and the Knights are competing with other schools like UNLV, Michigan and Oregon State.
UCF has done a solid job of bolstering its recruiting class over the spring and the summer. The program has 12 hard commits, according to 247Sports, which is also missing the addition of Reynolds and Lake Mary EDGE Patrick Ryan.
Frost emphasized looking under every rock to find local, hidden gems, and he executed that vision. He did miss out on some, but not every program will get a commitment from players they are pursuing.
Missing out on local recruits like Nazir Pitchford (North Carolina) and Zy Tassin (Wake Forest) was a tough blow, but the Knights bounced back. They even flipped New Jersey three-star linebacker Ian McDuffie from Syracuse.
The Knights have put together a solid 2027 recruiting class, but their efforts aren't close to over.
