Former UCF Star RJ Harvey Suffers Knee Injury, Lands on Injured Reserve

Denver’s breakout offensive weapon faces a minimum four-game absence after a practice setback, stalling a historic start that saw the rookie tailback eclipse franchise receiving records.

At UCF, standout running back RJ Harvey became the program's all-time leader in touchdowns scored, while leading the Knights through the transition period in the Big 12 Conference.

In 2025, Harvey was taken No. 60 overall by the Denver Broncos, and has already made a big impact in head coach Sean Payton's scheme.

But, unfortunately, Harvey suffered a knee injury in practice prior to Sunday's matchup, and landed on the injured reserve following the win.

The former Knights standout will miss a minimum of four games, and can first return in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins.

This is unfortunate timing for Harvey and the Broncos, who have begun to put together some better offensive performances as of late.

In Harvey's last outing, a 30-16 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, he broke free for a 52-yard touchdown reception, marking the longest play of the Broncos' season and his NFL career.

Early in the third quarter, Harvey slipped out of the backfield to the left on a swing pass, using his blockers to burst through a hole and run untouched to the endzone.

While his rushing production has been very limited, Harvey has been Denver's most-consistent receiver, averaging nearly five targets and over 36 yards per game.

Despite missing Sunday's game, Harvey is still the Broncos' third-leading receiver (217 yards), trailing veteran wideout Courtland Sutton by just four yards.

Harvey's 25 receptions is also second on the team.

In Week 3, against the San Francisco 49ers, Harvey was a perfect 10-of-10 on his targets, accumulating 68 receiving yards and giving Denver significant yards after the catch.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Harvey slipped out to the left flat and caught a pass for a five-yard gain.

Four 49ers defenders descended on Harvey, but he was able to break a tackle and evade all four, breaking free and turning a check down into an 18-yard gain.

This total was the third-most receptions by a Denver running back in single-game franchise history.

With Harvey's 67 catches through his first 20 NFL games, Harvey now sits alone atop the Broncos' franchise rankings, beating out Hall-of-Fame tailback Terrell Davis.

J.K. Dobbins is also sidelined, meaning the Broncos will likely turn to rookie tailback Jonah Coleman during Harvey's absence, giving the physical Washington product an opportunity to produce in his first season.

Luckily, Denver's schedule does lighten up a bit over the coming weeks, taking on the Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Pittsburgh Steelers prior to Harvey's earliest projected return.
