Scott Frost: UCF QB Keyone Jenkins Plays 'Like a Point Guard'

Fresh off an upset of BYU, the Knights' signal-caller is earning national praise for his surgical distribution and poise under pressure heading into a pivotal Big 12 showdown.

After UCF's historic victory over then-ranked No. 2 BYU, the vibes have been high surrounding head coach Scott Frost and his program.

On Tuesday, Frost joined the Jim Rome Show to talk about the win and what he saw from starting quarterback Keyone Jenkins.

"He plays the game like a point guard," Frost said. "He's going to make the right decision and distribute the ball where he needs to."

Frost went on to say that Jenkins has gotten better each week he has had the opportunity to start, while affirming that he will be the starter going forward.

Jenkins has been recognized by multiple conference and national outlets throughout this week, being named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week and Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week on Tuesday morning.

Against BYU, Jenkins accounted for four total touchdowns, passing for 293 yards and running for an additional 35 with his legs.

Jenkins' ability to extend plays with his legs is a big asset, using his lefty cannon to fire balls into tight windows.

This was the case down the stretch for the Knights, who relied on Jenkins to make good decisions and not take sacks in the overtime period.

After BYU struck first in first overtime, Jenkins escaped from the pocket on the first play of UCF's offensive possession, getting free and finding the Knights' top receiver Josh Derry near the front left pylon.

UCF started with the ball first in second overtime, with Jenkins finding third-string tight end Grayson Brousseau on a flat route for the eventual game-winning score.

Brousseau, who is UCF's third tight end on the depth chart, continues the theme of Jenkins spreading the wealth to his receiving corps.

True freshman wide receiver Tyren Hornes was by-far Jenkins' top pass-catcher, recording six catches for 137 yards.

But, nine different Knights caught a pass, keeping the Cougars' defense honest.

During his last three games against Oklahoma State, Houston, and BYU, who are all ranked Big 12 opponents, Jenkins totaled 811 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and just two interceptions, showing he belongs at the Power 4 level.

He also continued to lean on different pass-catchers each week, with Hornes being the latest breakthrough.

As UCF prepares for a key matchup against the reeling Baylor Bears, Jenkins' confidence has to be at an all-time high.

The Knights host Baylor as part of their Space Game on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
