After anchoring the Big 12’s elite pass defense with game-sealing plays, the shutdown cornerback is surging up draft boards as a physical force with high-round potential.
Several UCF Knights appeared in Chad Reuters' 2027 NFL Draft Rankings, potentially adding themselves to a long list of players drafted from the program.
Cornerback Jayden Bellamy came in as a "potential Day 2/early Day 3 pick" on Reuters' rankings. He is the lone Knight in that category, which speaks to his on-field impact.
Bellamy played a significant role in helping UCF finish with a top-three pass defense in the Big 12 last season. The team allowed 185.1 yards per game and recorded nine interceptions throughout the year.
He was a shutdown corner, jamming receivers at the line of scrimmage and breaking up passes. Bellamy often found himself in the most critical moments in games.
Against Jacksonville State, he broke up Gavin Winsett's pass before catching the game-sealing interception two downs later in the final drive. Against Oklahoma State on Senior Knight, he broke up Zane Flores' pass, leading to Braeden Marshall intercepting the batted ball and gifting the seniors a victory in their last home game.
Cam Mellor, PFSN's chief analytical officer, tabbed him as a top-10 player at his position in the conference.
The then-redshirt junior finished with the most forced incompletions (11), ranking above several competitors who ended with 10. Mellor gave him an 85.1 rating back in February, which ranked sixth and was 3.3 points higher than Arizona's Jay'Vion Cole.
His impressive debut season in the Big 12 has garnered high expectations heading into the new year. Bellamy is entering 2026 as a top-30 cornerback in the FBS.
That's a high standing and could show some insight into Reuters' ranking for Bellamy.
If he continues to perform at a high level, he could join his former teammate Malachi Lawrence in the NFL. Lawrence made program history, becoming the highest-selected defensive player, selected 23rd by the Dallas Cowboys.
Bellamy would become the 16th defensive back drafted from UCF, and the fifth in the 2020s. He'd join Mac McWilliams (fifth round, 145th overall, 2025), Richie Grant (second round, 40th overall, 2021), Aaron Johnson (third round, 71st overall, 2021) and Tay Gowan (sixth round, 223rd overall, 2021).
The Knights will open the 2026 season against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on Sept. 3. Bellamy will have the opportunity to strengthen his draft stock and impress NFL scouts.
The 2027 NFL Draft is eight months away, but for Reuter, it's never too early to predict rankings for eligible draft players. It's an encouraging sign that Bellamy is a potential late Day 2 or early Day 3 pick.
