The University of Connecticut men's basketball team flirted with its first Big East loss of the season again on Saturday, but they ultimately stayed unbeaten in the league by beating Villanova 75-67 in Hartford, Conn.
The Huskies are now 19-1 overall and 9-0 in conference play while the Wildcats are 15-5 and 6-3.
Here's what you need to know:
The Huskies are No. 2 in the country, but it hasn't been easy for them over the last few weeks. They needed overtime to beat Providence 103-98 and then barely survived Seton Hall 69-64 before just getting past Georgetown 64-62 last weekend.
The Big East requires toughness and prides itself on defense and tenacity, but the Huskies' offensive output hasn't been there for the last several games. Outside of that Providence win, UConn has scored 75 points or less in five straight games.
--UConn had four players in double-figures, including Solo Ball (24), Alex Karaban (17), Tarris Reed Jr. (10) and Silas Demary Jr. (10).
--Karaban didn't score at all in the first half, getting all 17 of his points in the second half and overtime.
--The Huskies shot 25-of-61 (41 percent) from the floor and 8-of-22 (36 percent) from three-point range. They were 16-of-22 (77 percent) at the foul line.
--Villanova was also 77 percent at the line, but was just 34 percent from the floor. They hit 10 threes though which allowed them to stay in the game.
--Duke Brennan and Tyler Perkins both had 16 points in the loss.
--The Huskies outscored the Wildcats 32-20 in the paint.
Demary, a junior from North Carolina, scored his 1,000th career point early in the game. The transfer from Georgia has been a huge part of this Huskies team and pairs with Ball and Karaban to make up one of the most dynamic groups in the country.
Star freshman Braylon Mullins left the game in the second half after taking an elbow to the head. He eventually returned to the bench, but did not return to the game. He had eight points in total.
--The UConn women, playing on Saturday instead of Sunday because of the looming snowstorm, trounced Seton Hall by nearly 40 points. The No. 1 Huskies are still unbeaten on the season. Read that recap here.
--UConn standout wide receiver Skyler Bell is preparing to play in the Shrine Bowl on Jan. 27. Bell was the first-ever AP First-Team All-American in school history in 2025. He helped the Huskies go 9-4 and earn an appearance in the Fenway Bowl.
