New University of Connecticut football coach Jason Candle has been hard at work for the last few weeks, building his first roster after taking the job over from the recently-departed Jim Mora.
Friday was the last day for most players around the nation to enter the transfer portal, and while UConn can still recruit unsigned players, a lot of the heavy lifting for teams has now concluded. With that, let's take a look at where things stand for the Huskies, with some help from cfbdepth.com.

--There are six wide receivers in that group, and while everyone wants to replace the graduating All-American in Skyler Bell, they won't all get to. Wilson and Ross come to Storrs with extensive experience at their last schools and should be able to impact things right away.
--There are eight former Toledo players on that list, as they followed Candle from his last spot. Just because they previously played for Candle doesn't mean they'll automatically play, but they do have a leg up.
--Merklinger has played slightly less than Osborne, but figures to have the edge in the quarterback competition at the outset.
--Cam Edwards, RB (Michigan State)
--Ben Murawski, OL (Michigan State)
--Carsten Casady, OL (West Virginia)
--Cam Chadwick, DB (Virginia Tech)
--Brady Wayburn, OL (UCF)
