Ky Wilson and Cam Abshire are headed to Storrs.

Brady Farkas on Ky "Flash" Wilson and how he fits in for UConn.

New University of Connecticut head football coach Jason Candle has been hard at work since taking the position to succeed Jim Mora, who left for the same job at Colorado State.

In addition to building a staff, Candle has been hard at work in the transfer portal, receiving multiple commitments over the last few days, including from wide receivers Cam Abshire and Ky Wilson.

About Wilson

An electric playmaker, he'll come to Storrs with one year of eligibility remaining. He spent two years at Slippery Rock and one year at Youngstown State, where he had 64 catches for 652 yards and six touchdowns. He also added 31 kickoff returns and a touchdown as well as 19 rushes for 101 yards and a score.

The following about his 2024 season at Slippery Rock was also on his Youngstown player page:

In 2024, played in 14 games, starting 12…recorded 1,524 all-purpose yards…had 32 kickoff returns for 842 yards and a touchdown…caught 57 passes for 637 yards and four touchdowns…also had 11 rushes for 34 yards and TD…helped SRU reach the Division II semifinals

About Abshire

Abshire was an excellent player at the Division II ranks for Emery & Henry in 2024, but he never really got his chance in Stillwater with the Cowboys. He played in 12 games but had just 10 receptions for 92 yards. At Emery & Henry, he was an All-South Atlantic Conference selection. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.

About the opportunity at UConn

Both players should get a chance to thrive in Candle's system, as there are openings everywhere to make an impact on offense. Starting quarterback Joe Fagnano is set to graduate and All-American wide receiver Skyler Bell is too.

Top running back Cam Edwards recently left the program, signing with Michigan State via the transfer portal.

Where the Huskies are at

UConn went 9-4 this past season, losing to Army in the Fenway Bowl, though multiple regulars didn't play or barely played in the bowl game. It was the second straight nine-win season for the Huskies, who were also a perfect 6-0 at home, making history.

Despite losing so many key pieces, the foundation has been laid for Candle to continue elevating the program.
