With the University of Connecticut football season now over following the Huskies' loss in the Fenway Bowl, it's onto a busy first offseason for new head coach Jason Candle.
The first order of business? The transfer portal, which opened up on Friday morning. The second? Finalizing coaching hires, of which the program did plenty of on Friday also.
We had heard about some of the names, but some were previously unknown, so let's take a look.
He just spent three years on the staff at Syracuse, working with quarterbacks and tight ends.
As noted by the Syracuse website, in his first year quarterbacks broke or tied 24 different program individual and team passing or total offense records (career, season and single-game) and starting quarterback Kyle McCord finished in the top-10 of Heisman Trophy voting after setting a new ACC single-season passing record.
He helped the Orange win 10 games and the Holiday Bowl in 2024.
However, this year, it was a different story. After quarterback Steve Angeli got hurt in the fourth game of the season, the Orange failed to win another game. A rotating group of young quarterbacks all got chances, but none were really prepared to play. The Orange had one of the worst offenses in the country, and its 20.2 ppg total was outside the Top-100.
In addition to Syracuse, Campanile has served on staff at Rutgers. He was also the head coach of high school power Bergen Catholic and he was on staff at famed Don Basco Prep.
A former linebacker at Cincinnati, Manalac has also coached at Michigan State, Valparaiso, Bucknell and Old Dominion (in addition to Pitt, where he just came from). He was the defensive coordinator at Old Dominion and Bucknell, so that means he's called plays and run a defense before, which will be a big benefit for Candle's first staff.
Manalac played four years for the Bearcats, appearing in 51 total games. He had 115 solo tackles, one interception, 1.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.
Chance most recently served as the co-defensive coordinator at Oregon State, but he's also worked at Colorado, Oregon, Minnesota, Southern Utah, Vanderbilt and Rhode Island.
Lewis follows candle from Toledo, where he began in 2025. Before that, he worked at Michigan, Wake Forest, South Alabama and Akron. He played at Tennessee.
Another coach with Toledo ties, he spent three years as a player at South Florida, throwing for 7,488 yards as a quarterback. He tossed 51 touchdowns vs. 18 interceptions and also ran for 1,109 yards and 17 touchdowns. He played from 2000-02.
As a coach, he most recently served as the running backs coach at South Carolina, though he was fired earlier in December 2025. He's also coached at Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Houston. He spent the 2018 season at West Virginia and was the running backs coach for Candle at Toledo (2016-17). Toledo went 20-7 in those two seasons.
He coached Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt while with the Rockets.
He has coached at Charlotte, Michigan, Akron, Kansas, Iowa State, Indiana and Tiffin, serving primarily with the offensive line.
