By hitting three three-pointers on Wednesday night in a win over Xavier, University of Connecticut big man Alex Karaban moved into fifth all-time on the school's three-pointers made list.
He now has 243 made three's, and it's conceivable that he could take over the top spot by the time the season ends. He's behind only Rashad Anderson (276), Christian Vital (265), Shabazz Napier (260), and Ben Gordon (246).
Let's take a look at those he is chasing:
Another four-year player for the Huskies, Anderson was mostly a reserve player for head coach Jim Calhoun. He started only 21 games out of 130 appearances, and he only averaged 21 minutes a game. That said, he made those minutes count. He was a 38.6 percent three-point shooter for his career, averaging 11.0 ppg.
He helped the Huskies win the national title in 2003-04.
Vital spent four years in Storrs, averaging 13.7 ppg for his career. An excellent all-around shooter, he was 35.8 percent from three-point range and 83.6 percent at the foul line. He led the American Athletic Conference (AAC) in free-throw percentage twice.
Ironically, he could have assumed the top spot if he had returned for a fifth season, which he would have earned for having his senior season cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.
A two-time national champion, Napier won titles as both a freshman and a senior. Appearing in 143 games, he was a 37.5 percent three-point shooter. A first-team All-American his senior year, he averaged 18.0 ppg in his final campaign. He is one of the few players to have played for UConn in both its Big East and AAC days.
He was an all-conference selection in both leagues.
More UConn stories
The only player on this list to get here in three seasons, Gordon helped UConn win the national title in 2003-04 as well. Playing in 106 games, he started 74, and he shot 42.3 percent from three. He led the Big East in three-point percentage as a junior (43.3) and averaged 16.9 ppg.
He was the No. 3 pick in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls.
A four-year player from Massachusetts, Karaban has already helped the Huskies win two national championships in his career. Appearing in 125 games with 124 starts, he's also been a member of the All-Big East Team (2024-25).
He's averaged 12.4 ppg for his career while shooting 48 percent from the floor and 38 percent from three. He's also an 85 percent free-throw shooter who has averaged five rebounds and two assists.
