The Huskies led by 47 points at the break against the Riverhawks of the America East Conference.

The University of Connecticut men's basketball program made history on Friday night as they blitzed UMass-Lowell 110-47.

The Riverhawks, out of the America East Conference, had no chance against the No. 4 Huskies, who led by a whopping 47 points (64-17) at halftime.

That is the biggest halftime lead ever for the Huskies, which is shocking when you think about how good they've been, especially over the last quarter century. Connecticut has won six national championships since 1999, taking home the title in both the 2022-23 seasons and the 2023-24 campaigns.

Seven different members of the Huskies scored in double-figures, including all five starters. And the Huskies put up this performance without star freshman Braylon Mullins, who is out for a good portion of November with an ankle injury. They will be even better when the McDonalds All-America selection gets back on the floor.

    Tough tests upcoming

While the Huskies have had their way with Division II New Haven and UMass-Lowell in moving to 2-0 on the season, the tests will get very difficult in the coming weeks. After a game on Nov. 10 with Columbia, the Huskies will see No. 8 BYU, No. 13 Arizona, No. 17 Illinois, No. 19 Kansas, No. 3 Florida, Texas, and Butler -- all before the Christmas holiday. There are very few unranked opponents on the schedule for the remainder of 2025.

    Dan Hurley's challenge

Though the Huskies toppled New Haven 79-55 in the opener of the season, head coach Dan Hurley clearly expects more consistent attitude and effort. He told reporters on Friday that he expects this level of effort every day.

"What is that saying, too who much is given, much is expected? We invest a lot in these players to come out and perform to their absolute maximum and give everything they've got. I mean, these players, are very well resourced. I think they owe it to the university, to each other. They owe it to the coaching staff, they owe it to the fan base, they owe it to the donor, they owe it to a lot of people to go out and play on game night and practice every day to the absolute max for all the resources that are invested in them..."

That game against Columbia on Monday night will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET. It will be played at Gampel Pavilion and will air nationally on FS1.
