Stevens spent the past five years with the San Antonio Spurs, but is reportedly coming to Storrs.
According to reports, the UConn men's basketball team is set to hire former San Antonio Spurs staffer Charlie Stevens as its next general manager. A formal announcement is expected later this week.
Stevens is young, having just graduated college in 2021, but he's already amassed a wealth of experience that has prepared him for this job. He ended his time in San Antonio as the Director of Grassroots scouting.
We took a look at some of the positives - and some of our own questions - about the Stevens hiring, but CT Insider provided a little more on what UConn was looking for in this process.
"UConn was looking for a younger candidate with NBA experience and overseas ties to fill the position. Stevens, who is said to have massive connections throughout the basketball world, certainly fits the bill."
In addition to his time with the Spurs, Stevens also spent nine months as the head video coordinator for Ironi Nes Ziona BC, a team based in Israel. He's obviously gained some overseas connections through that job, but also through his work with the Spurs, which have historically had a strong overseas presence (Victor Wembanyama, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Thiago Splitter, just to name a few).

Amber Searls-Imagn ImagesStevens will be taking over the recently-retired Tom Moore, who worked at UConn in two different shifts around a head coaching gig at Quinnipiac.
With the academic year just about to start, that means we are less than two months away from the start of the Huskies' exhibition season. That means there isn't a lot of time for Stevens to get acclimated to his new settings.
UConn is coming off a season in which it finished second in both the Big East regular season standings and the Big East Tournament, losing to St. John's in both.

--UConn legend Diana Taurasi had her No. 3 retired by the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday night, and she received tribute videos from all over the basketball world, including from former Huskies' standouts Sue Bird, Paige Bueckers and Breanna Stewart.
In addition to those, current WNBA star Kelsey Plum revealed that she was inspired by watching Taurasi play in the 2004 NCAA Tournament when UConn went on a national championship run.
Plum is the No. 2 all-time leading scorer in women's college basketball and is a multi-time All-Star in the WNBA. She now plays for the Mercury after a midseason trade.
Taurasi won three national championships at UConn and then won three WNBA titles in Phoenix. She's the league's all-time leading scorer and spent her entire 20-year career with the Mercury.
