1:00 p.m. ET: Congratulations are in order for University of Connecticut men's basketball star Silas Demary Jr., who scored the 1,000th point of his career in the first half of Saturday's game against Villanova.
The bucket came with just under 16 minutes to play in the first half. UConn entered Saturday's contest at 18-1 and 8-0 inside Big East play. The Wildcats are 15-4 and 6-2 inside the league.
A junior guard from North Carolina, Demary began his career at the University of Georgia, becoming an impact player for the Bulldogs. He averaged 9.7 ppg as a freshman and 13.5 a game as a sophomore before transferring to Storrs. Entering play on Saturday, he was averaging 10.2 ppg, pairing with the likes of Solo Ball and Alex Karaban to make up one of the most dynamic rosters in the entire country.
He's now played in all 20 games this season, helping make up for injuries to Tarris Reed and Braylon Mullins, who have each missed time. He's shooting 81 percent at the foul line and 47 percent from the floor.
Winners of two of the last three national championships, UConn looks like a contender for the title again in 2025-26. Arizona, who is the only team to beat UConn, is currently ranked No. 1.
Given that the game against Villanova is still going, this story will be updated following its conclusion.
