The transfer portal and NIL money have thrown college recruiting upside down. A coaching change only adds to the chaos.
And it’s against that backdrop that new UConn coach Jason Candle, hired last month to replace the departed Jim Mora, needs to fill the Huskies roster.
But Candle has one advantage in the wild, wild west of recruiting. He can tap into his former players, and some he recruited, in his previous job as the head coach at Toledo of the Mid-American Conference.
Someone new jumped on the Toledo-to-Storrs shuttle on Monday – Kalieb Osborne.
Three days ago, quarterback Oborne of Toledo announced he would be leaving the school and gave major props to Candle.
“I am truly grateful for my time at the University of Toledo,” he wrote on Instagram. “One of the most meaningful parts of my journey here was the belief shown to me by Coach Jason Candle. Coach Candle believed in my ability from the start and gave me the opportunity to grow, compete, and develop as a quarterback. That confidence and trust meant a great deal to me and is something I will always appreciate.”
He also praised Robert Weiner, who coached him at Dayton and has signed on as assistant head coach and a special assistant at UConn.
So, it makes sense that Osborne now is a Husky.
He was a three-star recruit out of Waterford Mott (Mich.) High School in the Class of 2024 and redshirted that season. In 2025, the 6-foot-3, 204-pound Osborne appeared in seven games with the Rockets, completing 32 of 52 passes (61.54%) for 427 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
Osborne has three years of eligibility remaining.

This list is just an update. It certainly won’t be the end of the player movement at UConn this winter.
